Semiahmoo Golf and Country Club enjoys two championship 18 hole courses!

For many years, Semiahmoo and Loomis Trail have consistently ranked within the top seven on Golf Digest's "Places to Play" in Washington State list. www.golfwashington.com

Semiahmoo and Loomis Trail Golf courses combine to create a Semiahmoo Golf Club Membership which means access and enjoyment of two highly regarded 18 hole courses.

Members, of course, can play wherever they choose, but if one desires a “private, members only” playing experience, it is always available. On a daily basis, one course is always “members only”. Semiahmoo is private on even numbered days of the month. Loomis is private on odd numbered days.

In 1987, the editors of “Golf Digest” magazine bestowed the “best New Resort Course” In America title on Semiahmoo Golf Course. It continues to receive accolades from tour players as well as corporate golfers year after year.

Immaculately manicured fairways flanked with ancient evergreens of cedar and fir lead to stunningly contoured greens surrounded by white sand bunkers. Sometimes the scenery is blamed for a lackluster shot. As early as fairway number two, you’ll be drawn left by the filtered view of Drayton Harbor and snow capped Canadian Coastal mountains in the distance. A Grand Fir just past the one hundred-fifty yard marker left of the fairway is a famous lookout for the majestic Bald Eagle. Sometimes the sheer staggering size of winged traffic surprises!

From number four, snow capped Mount Baker, Mount Shuksan and a shimmering sliver of Birch Bay and Drayton Harbor come into view. Make sure your approach is below the pin here. You will thank me later.

The pond between five and six is surrounded by wildflowers in summer, and harbors a symphony of quackers in winter! Watch your club selection here at the par 3, the breeze may swirl. If you’re not paying attention, you too, may join the frolicking water fowl.

Designed in the roughly figure eight shape of returning nines, number nine does, indeed, bring you home.

It’s pretty easy to avoid the water on ten, but eleven and twelve are a different story. It’s usually a surprise to step up to the tee at twelve and realize that in the distance, Mount Baker is watching. Twelve is Arnold Palmer’s “Signature” hole. A short par three, but the only way to the green is over the water!

At fifteen, once again, saltwater appears in the distance. Don’t look back from the green at seventeen, or you’ll see White Rock, BC…the whole beach could be watching.

The homecoming fairway occasionally seems like home on the range to a few resident black tailed deer. Watch out for water on the right!

From the back tees, Arnold Palmer has created a golf course that challenges players of the highest skill level. At just over 7,000 yards from the tips, it is a true test of golf! The forward tees and the Member tees, however, ensure that regardless of a player’s skill level, although challenging, the course will enchant you and encourage you to return again and again, to perfect that one shot!

Semiahmoo is a course for all seasons. Our mild Northwest weather allows the course to be open year round. Of course, occasionally, winter rules apply. Several times a month in most Januarys or Februarys we are not surprised to experience a frost delay. Even so, our weather is mild enough that the hearty club members fondly refer to their winter Member tournament as the “Blue Toes” tourney! Spring and fall are gentle seasons for golf and our mild summers are ideal. We only average about 3 days a year when the thermometer exceeds ninety degrees. We don’t suffer with humidity. On those rare hot days, a breeze is almost guaranteed to show up at about 4 PM and blow some cool air in from across the saltwater! We don’t suffer with huge populations of bugs, either. Although most people do have screens on their windows, it isn’t going to be the end of the world if someone leaves a door open. Of course, we have the odd fly, and mosquitoes do try to breed in our ponds, but we never feel like we have to spray ourselves with bug repellent before we step outside! Semiahmoo really is an easy place to live and play.

Semiahmoo Golf Course partners with the Audubon society as a bird sanctuary. If one looks closely, bat houses can be spotted in the woods near the ponds. Did you know that one bat is capable of eating 30,000 mosquitoes a day? I wonder who did the counting?

LOOMIS TRAIL COURSE:

Ranked by Golf Digest as the number 3 “Best New Private Course” in 1995, Loomis has grown in stature since. Canadian designer Graham Cooke crafted a challenging course. It’s more level than Semiahmoo, but water comes into play more often. Rather than a returning nines configuration, several fairways run parallel to one another, reminiscent of old Scottish courses. Like Semiahmoo, stepping to one of slightly elevated tees, one is sometimes surprised to see snow capped mountains in the distance. Don’t let the scenery disorient you. We’ve heard some tales of woe regarding losing golf balls at Loomis! The gardeners and groundskeepers have received a great deal of recognition for their work. The greens are consistently smooth, fat and true throughout the year.
With the second highest slope rating in Washington State, Loomis Trail is not only exceptionally well groomed, it is challenging.

The bentgrass fairways reward the well-played shot with an excellent stance and lie, allowing consistent shotmaking. With one of the best drainage systems in the pacific Northwest, Loomis Trail is a delight to walk any time of the year.

Yes, golf carts are only required for tournament play. Members and guests are welcome to walk if they choose, except of course to maintain the pace of play in tournaments. The Club maintains a fleet of quiet, non-polluting golf carts. Private golf carts are not allowed.

There is, of course, a dress code. Denim is not allowed, collars and sleeves required, tailored shorts, etc.

The non-private course is always available to hotel guests and the public.
That hotel and public play enables Club Management to keep Membership fees and dues at their current modest levels. Members are not required to meet a food and beverage minimum in the Clubhouses.

One of the changes that accompanied the merger is that property ownership at Semiahmoo is no longer a requirement for Golf Club Membership.

Memberships are non-transferable and non-equity.

The by-laws have established a ceiling of 650 Active Memberships.

Semiahmoo enjoys offering a number of junior golf and tennis programs.
